OUSD’s West Orange Elementary School Receives
    Title I Academic Achievement Award

West Orange Elementary School was one of only 310 schools in California named as a Title I Academic Achievement Award recipient. California has nearly 5,900 Title 1 schools. A total of 338 California schools were eligible for the award this year.

Title I is part of the 2001 federal No Child Left Behind Act. The Title 1 Achievement Awards recognizes schools that are demonstrating success towards scoring the required proficiency levels on California standardized content tests with disadvantage students. The award goes to schools that score twice the required school wide Academic Performance Index growth target for those students in the socio-economically disadvantaged subgroup for two consecutive years. The winning schools must have at least 40% of its enrolled students from families meeting the poverty index and the school must also meet or exceed their Adequate Yearly Progress goals for two years in a row.

West Orange Elementary representatives will be honored with the other winning schools at a banquet during the State Title 1 Conference May1-2, 2006 in Costa Mesa. West Orange was the only OUSD Title I school honored.
