Measure K inches forward in ballot count
Measure K inched slowly forward in ballot counting by the Orange County Registrar of Voters on Thursday-two days after the polls closed.
At the close of ballot counting today, the Yes on K continued its slow climb forward since the end of election night to 54.1%.
A "super majority" of 55% is needed for the measure to be approved.
Around 1100 of the 19,000 ballots counted today were from Orange Unified voters. The C.A.R.E. social media site listed the percentage picked up of YES votes from the votes counted today at 55.5% -about 350 votes short. The low turnout was disappointing to Measure K supporters with the Yes on Measure K website lamenting that if only 10 more parents from each of OUSD's 40 schools had voted- the facilities bond would currently be ahead.
A total of 106, 513 ballots from all over Orange County remain to be counted. That total includes 40,000 mailed in vote-by mail ballots; 62,000 vote-by mail turned into the polling places; 38,000 provisional ballots that need to be verified and counted; and almost 5,800 paper ballots cast on election day that must be counted by hand.
