    COMMUNITY UPDATE
OUSD identifies three Halloween night victims as district students

Orange Unified Superintendent Michael Christensen identified the three victims of the Santa Ana Halloween night hit-and-run as students who attended two of the district's middle schools. The hit-and-run took place in front of an OUSD's elementary schools located in the City of Santa Ana-Fairhaven Elementary.

The message from Superintendent Christensen to OUSD Staff in part stated:

"We were all shocked and greatly saddened by the Halloween evening hit and run accident that claimed the lives of three middle school students.  What should have been an evening of fun and excitement with  friends, went tragically wrong when at approximately 6:45 pm at the crosswalk in front of Fairhaven Elementary School on Fairhaven Avenue three girls were struck by a hit and run driver.

    The girls were identified as:
Lexandra Perez Huerta, 8th Grade, Portola Middle School
Lexi Perez Huerta, 8th Grade, Portola Middle School
Andrea Gonzalez, 8th Grade, Santiago Charter Middle School

Our deepest sympathies go to the family and friends of these young ladies.
Psychological support services will be available early Monday morning for all staff, family members, and students at the corresponding school campuses.  Several classrooms at each site have been identified for these support services.  Principals at the respective schools have developed response plans in collaboration with the Offices of Student and Community Services and Psychological Services."

Santa Ana Police announced today that they had made five arrests in the case . More information is expected on Monday.
