An election year full of surprises
An election year full of surprises
Only incumbents file in Orange races
and only challengers file in Villa Park
In a year full of surprises on the
national front, local election news in this
cycle also has produced some surprises.
As of the filing deadline today Friday
August 18th, only incumbents filed in all
the Orange City
elections and the two Villa Park City Council
members Mayor Greg Mills and Mayor Pro Tem Rick Barnett did not file for
re-election.
In Villa Park ,
because the incumbents failed to file, the deadline for challengers will be
extended 5 days-until Wednesday August 17th.
In Orange, with no challengers in any of the races, an election will not be needed.

In Orange Unified, Dr. Alexia
Deligianni-Brydges has no opposition and will be automatically re-elected.
Trustee John Ortega faces his first opponent since being elected in 2001.
In OUSD Trustee Area 6, Mark Wayland did not seek reelection, but his son did pull papers to replace his father on the OUSD Board. Area 6 nominations and filing will now be extended until Wednesday August 17th. The younger Wayland has not filed yet.
Very late updating from an apparently very busy O.C. Registrar of Voters shows that two challengers and the incumbent all filed on the last day for the Rancho Santiago Community College Board of Trustees.
