Wayland wants to pass seat to son

    All in the family?

Wayland's son pulls papers for dad's seat

In an unprecedented development in Orange Unified history, realtor Jeremy Wayland, son of Orange Unified School Board Trustee Mark Wayland, has filed for his father seat on the OUSD Board of Trustees.

In December, Mark Wayland had announced that for health reasons, he would be resigning his seat.  That move never came.

However, sources close to the OUSD Board state that the elder Wayland was actually working to get his son appointed to his seat for the remainder of his term when he resigned, thus allowing the younger Wayland to run as an incumbent this November.  According to those sources, when Father Wayland’s plans were met with resistance by the elder Wayland's Board  allies, Wayland remained on the Board- working to unseat Provisionally Appointed Greg Salas.

Now with the elder Wayland not running for re-election to the Board to clear the way for his son keeping his seat, the filing period for the OUSD Board will be extended to Friday the 19th.
