New lease proposal for Super Sports for former VPHS golf coach
OUSD Board votes 4-3 to oust
Peralta Golf Partners from Peralta Site

At the February 26th Orange Unified School Board Meeting, the OUSD Trustees voted 4-3 against the option for a $200,000 month-to-month lease for the Super Sports Golf and Recreation Center run by the Peralta Golf Partnership at the former Peralta school site.  The vote shuts down the operations of the Peralta Golf Partnership at the end of March.

OUSD Board President John Ortega and Trustees Tim Surridge, Rick Ledesma and Mark Wayland voted against the month-to-month arrangement with Trustees Kathy Moffat, Diane Singer and Dr. Alexia Deligianni voting to continue the current lease on a month-to month basis.

The OUSD Board did vote for the option to enter into separate agreements with three subtenants. The February Agenda item called for the following arrangements to be negotiated:  Olive Crest Academy for $230,000 annually plus utilities ; Arena Soccer Club  for $57,360 annually plus utilities and maintenance; and Tennis Specialists will pay for $24,000 annually with OUSD paying for utilities and maintenance.  OUSD will also be responsible for major maintenance repairs for Olive Crest.

The March 12, 2015 OUSD Agenda Item 12 B (page 4) calls for approval of an interim agreement with the three subtenants during the negotiations after the March 31 expiring of the Peralta Golf Partners lease.

When the OUSD Board originally sought bids to develop the Peralta site under a 99 year lease, Peralta Golf Partnerships was one of the bidders to develop the 20 acre site for high density use.  When they lost that bid to the Fairfield Companies, the facility appeared to take the side of the neighborhood in trying to maintain the site without development. That apparent position did not sit well with the two Trustees who were most pushing for the high density development- Timothy Surridge and Rick Ledesma.  Subsequent appearances by Peralta Golf Partnership representatives before the OUSD Board after the defeat of the high density lease agreement were met by visible distain by Surridge and Ledesma. The most notable of these interactions at the Canyon High School "on-the-road" meeting was named "Beating at the Meeting" by the Save Peralta group on YouTube:

    Jason Drotter
After voting for the subleases the OUSD Board directed staff to prepare to take bids on the driving range that was leased by Peralta Golf Partnerships.

The March 12, 2015 OUSD Agenda Item 12 C (page 5) reveals that while the Peralta Golf Partners leased the site, the day-to-day operations of the driving range and the management of the entire site was provided by Jason Drotter LLC.

The Agenda item offers two options for the granting Jason Drotter management of the Super Sports site.  Option one for $30,000 a year gives "regular maintenance" and management responsibilities to Drotter.  Option 2 for $60,000 a year outlines less maintenance responsibility for OUSD.

Drotter, the former coach of the Villa Park High School boy's and girls' golf teams for six years is currently the head coach of the CSUF men's golf program in addition to managing the Super Sports complex for Peralta Golf Partners. Drotter has also played golf professionally and is a professional golf instructor.
