OUSD to try to sell Peralta Site

The Orange Unified Board of Trustees is again offering the Peralta Property for sale to developers.

The March 8, 2018, OUSD Agenda does not identify the Peralta Site by name. The Agenda just uses the site's address in the Closed Session portion of the Agenda that deals with the potential sale.

It has been customary to name the site under consideration for sale in the OUSD Agenda.

Agenda Item 4 B introduction states:

    B. CONFERENCE WITH REAL PROPERTY NEGOTIATORS Government Code 54956.8 Property: Approximately 19.57 acres of property located at 2190 N. Canal Street, Orange, California (“Property”).

The agenda item then goes on to list the OUSD negotiators and who and what  they are negotiating:
"and an unidentified number of potential buyers or lessees for the Property which may acquire or lease the Property pursuant to applicable California law (Proposed Buyer/Lessee".

While not identifying the "potential buyers"  it does list the current leaseholders as negotiating for new leases.  The agenda item further states that the Trustees are to instruct the negotiators as to how much to charge for the lease renewals and to buy the property outright:
"Instruction to Negotiators will concern both price and terms of payment for the licenses for the identified Property and price and terms of payment for the potential disposition of the identified Property".

Last month the Orange Unified Trustees voted to increase taxes to build new schools. The same conservative majority that voted to increase taxes to pay for new schools, has insisted that the Peralta Site is not needed for future schools because of declining enrollment.

Peralta Jr. High School closed in 1985.
